Charmaine van Niekerk created Life’s a Gift to help people cultivate a healthy lifestyle that includes the right diet, yoga, and mindfulness. It is through paying attention to our mind and body that we can see the changes we need to make to be healthy.

Why do we need to pay attention to lifestyle? We pay attention to lifestyle to support or improve our health. How often do you experience stress and anxiety? What about digestive issues such as indigestion, bloating or constipation? These conditions can manifest as disease if ignored or when we focus only on alleviating the symptoms. Lifestyle disease includes hypertension, obesity, heart disease, cancer.

How do we pay attention? Mindfulness practice teaches us to pay attention, in the present moment, non-judgmentally. We pay attention to physical sensations, emotions, and thoughts, as they arise, and we cultivate healthy lifestyle habits that include what, how and when we eat, regular exercise, yoga asana, and cultivating everyday mindfulness.

Some examples of how our services can help runners:

  • Yoga trains us to stay focused and pay attention to our posture while exercising. Yoga builds strength and flexibility that can help prevent injuries by correcting imbalances.
  • Mindfulness teaches us how to be present and manage our thoughts, emotions, and physical discomfort or pain.
  • Healthy eating habits allow our bodies to optimally function so that we feel well.
